Mistakes I made in college and what I learned from them

When I first entered college, I thought I could handle everything easily. But of course, reality was different, and along the way I made quite a few mistakes. Looking back now, I actually feel thankful for those mistakes, because they taught me lessons that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise.

One of the biggest mistakes I made was procrastinating. I used to put off assignments until the very last minute. At that time, I thought, “It’s fine, I still have time.” But when the deadline got closer, I would panic, rush through everything, and end up feeling stressed. Sometimes the work I submitted wasn’t even my best. From that mistake, I realized how important time management is. Doing a little bit every day feels so much better than trying to finish everything overnight.

Another mistake was being too quiet in class. Whenever I didn’t understand something, I just stayed silent. I was scared people might laugh or think I was slow. But honestly, staying silent only made me more lost. Later, I learned that asking questions doesn’t make you look weak,  it actually shows that you want to learn. And most of the time, my classmates had the exact same doubts but were just too shy to ask as well.

I also regret not joining activities earlier. At first, I was worried about whether I would fit in, or if people would even talk to me. So I avoided it. But when I finally gave it a try, I ended up having fun and even made some good friends. That mistake taught me that sometimes fear is only in our head. Once we take the first step, things are not as scary as we imagine.

In the end, all these mistakes shaped me. They reminded me that college isn’t just about getting grades,  it’s about learning how to manage myself, build confidence, and grow as a person. I realized it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as I don’t repeat them and instead use them as lessons to become better.
